"Brandon
Mahrt of the
North Pole Aquatics Club was a perfect seven-for-seven at the Alaska
State Age-Group Swimming Championship held earlier this month in
Soldotna.
Mahrt,
13, won all seven of the events he swam- 100
yard backstroke, 200 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 50 freestyle, 100
butterfly and 200 breaststroke-and had personal best times in the
finals of each event.
Mahrt's
effort headed up a strong performance by the
12 NPAC
swimmers
who competed in the three-day meet that featured swimmers age 8-14
from throughout the state.
Eight
of the 12 NPAC swimmers who competed in the event swam in at least
one final.
Mahrt
won the high-point trophy for his age group and Stephanie
Hampton placed third overall in the 11-year-old girls division
to lead North Pole to a ninth-place finish in the overall standings.
Hampton
won the 500 freestyle and finished second in four other events.
Bryce
Peck won
the 200 freestyle for the boys age 9-10 and Chris
Gipson captured a first place in the age 12 boys 100 butterfly.
Other
NPAC finalists included: Jenelle Garvey, Erica
Chambers, Paige-David Peck and Kyle
Solow. Adam Boatman, Brittany Murray, Faith Fleagle and
Brenda Mahrt also participated in the state championships."
